Baltimore Community College, also known as Baltimore City Community College or simply as BCCC, is a community college located in Baltimore, Maryland. The school was established in 1947. BCCC has an average enrollment of more than 7,000 students each term in its three main campuses. The college serves the community of Baltimore. The school offers higher education courses and programs including training for employment programs, a transfer program to 4-year colleges, and even short term programs to help student upgrade their skills or train for new skills.
Baltimore Community College first started out as the Baltimore Junior college. The school was established in 1847 as part of the Baltimore City Public School System. It was established to provide post high school education for veterans that were returning from the Second World War. By 1959, the school it had changed its location to the northwest area of the city, along Liberty Heights Avenue. The area chosen was a park-like land to build the first campus. Then in 1967, the College was restructured as an independent institution of the Baltimore City government and changed its name to the Community College of Baltimore. Baltimore Community College celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1997.
BCCC has six major locations. The main campus is found is the Liberty campus, found in the Mondawmin section of the city of Baltimore. Then there is the Reisterstown Road Plaza campus, which holds additional classes from the main campus, and the Harbor Campus which hosts the Business and Continuing Education division of the school. There is also the Life Sciences Institute at University of Maryland's BioPark, the National Weatherization Training Center, and the Maryland Center for Construction Technologies
